Dec. 27 2016 - Russia enraged at U.S. arming Syrian rebels with ManPADS

from Washington Times

The Russian Foreign Ministry declared U.S. intentions to provide Syrian “rebels” fighting the Assad regime in the Syrian Civil War as a “hostile move.” Barack Obama signed the 2017 Defense Authorization bill on Dec. 23rd of this year. The bill provides authorization for the Department of Defense to arm the rebels with shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles or ManPADS.

The Russians have a long memory of the Stinger missiles that were provided by the CIA to the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan, which turned the tide of the conflict and forced Soviet withdrawal from the country.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Tuesday regarding the missiles falling into the hands of the Islamic State, “Perhaps, they even expect this to happen, since they actually sponsor the Jabhat al-Nusra [terrorist group, outlawed in Russia - TASS], which is a unit of al Qaeda. This can hardly be called otherwise than aiding and abetting terrorists,” reports Russian State News Agency TASS…

  1. A worthwhile short book to cover this subject (American perfidy in its pursuit of hegemony in the region) is Seymour Hersh’s “The Killing of Osama Bin Laden.” First half is about that assassination. Second half is about the plan for regime change in Syria, and encompasses—in brief— the Benghazi disaster triggered by the arms ratline from Libya to Syria. The sordid tales reveal Obama to be another mendacious, hubristic American tyrant.

    • Hersh must know this old joke:
“A man goes to circus to audition his animal act. His dog plays the piano and his cat, leaning against the piano like a diva, sings. After watching the act the owner is sold on it but his assistant says: “Don’t fall for it! It’s all fake! The cat does not sing but lip syncs! It’s the dog who both plays the piano and sings his little ventriloquist heart out.”

In his book Hersh tells us not to believe the official story, according to which the Pakistanis knew nothing about the secret operation; Bin Laden had been tracked down by assiduous surveillance and he was killed when he didn’t surrender.
According to Seymour Hersh, Bin Laden was given up by a Pakistani official in exchange for a multi-million-dollar reward. He had been held prisoner in Pakistan since 2006 and Pakistan was complicit in the navy Seal operation. Bin Laden, says Hersh, was shot dead in cold blood.

I don’t buy Hersh’ “worthwhile” yarn even if only for two small details: (1) BL had been dead for several years by then and I don’t believe in reincarnation. (2) The videos released later, each showing him younger, fatter and bejewelled like no ascetic Islamic fundamentalist living in caves are a joke.

My question to you is why is the cat-and-dog duet more believable to you than the version giving all he credit to the dog?
It is true that Hersh earned a lot of credibility with his past reports so he can sell (to some) just about any cock-and-bull/cat-and-dog story as long as it appears to be against “anti-establishment.” It takes talent to be a gatekeeper who is head and shoulders above the run of the mill Truth Checkpoint soldiers.

      • It would have been truly “worthwhile” for Hersh to suss out if the man whose body was allegedly thrown in the ocean was some patsy they killed for the purpose or a corpse provided by a Pakistani morgue. Also what exactly happened with the helicopter that exploded after the operation, killing all the Navy Seals on board and thus making them safely silent for ever.

      • didn’t Hersh say the “truth” about the disposal of bin Laden’s body was the Seals chopped it up in pieces and threw it out the window of a helicopter? That wasn’t bin Laden and Hersh is never again to be trusted.

        • I don’t think I knew that. It makes so much sense: BL was too tall to fit in the chopper and throw out the window…It’s the kind of detail that adds veracity to the story. Hersh must have gotten it from one of the choppers. Wow!
