Obama Eyeing Internet ID for Americans

President Obama is planning to hand the U.S. Commerce Department authority over a forthcoming cybersecurity effort to create an Internet ID for Americans, a White House official said here today.

… The Obama administration is currently drafting what it’s calling the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace, which Locke said will be released by the president in the next few months. (An early version was publicly released last summer.)

In the Name of Business: Buried Headlines of a Changing World

EDIT: Sunday Jan. 9th – I wrote this story yesterday morning and posted it before the attack in Arizona. Today it seems strangely prophetic. The two stories that were buried by yesterday’s events are very important and they should not be overlooked so I stuck this to the top of the page for today.


It’s called “killing the story”. What you do is you announce some information on a Friday, or just before a holiday or some big event, information that you know is going to generate a lot of negative press. You do this so that the embarrassing information gets buried in the slow news cycle of the weekend or overshadowed by the another bigger story.

It happened on Sept. 10 2001… twice. And it happened again yesterday… twice.
