Yes. We Are Extremely Dangerous to THEIR Version of “Democracy”

A participatory public, a viable community of engaged citizens working toward building a more informed citizenry, is the greatest threat to what they see as “their democracy”  What they fear most perhaps is the public coming to understand their their version of “democracy” isn’t actually democracy at all.

Facebook labels Palestinian journalism “hate speech”

from Electronic Intifada

Facebook is defending its decision to shut down the page of a major Palestinian news outlet, describing the action as a move against “hate speech.”

On Saturday, the social media giant closed without warning the page of the Safa Palestinian Press Agency, which had 1.3 million followers, as well as Safa’s account on the photo sharing site Instagram.

On Tuesday, the Palestinian Media Association condemned Facebook’s widening assault on the free speech of Palestinian journalists, calling it “clear submission to the policies and dictates of the Israeli occupation which is pursuing Palestinian activists on the basis of their political views and intellectual positions and issuing prison sentences against them.”

But Facebook is justifying the removal of Safa’s account. “This page was correctly removed for violating our community standards,” a company spokesperson emailed The Electronic Intifada Monday evening. “There is no room for hate speech or incitement of violence on our platform.”…

According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Facebook’s latest crackdown on Palestinian journalists and activists began several weeks ago, after Israeli occupation forces extrajudicially executed Ahmad Nasser Jarrar, a man Israel claims was involved in the shooting death of an Israeli settler in early January.

Israeli lawmakers also discussed how to suppress online content, including getting Facebook to take down images of Jarrar.

Since the beginning of the year, Haaretz says, citing an unnamed Palestinian activist who monitors the issue, about 500 Facebook pages of Palestinian activists and journalists have been closed by the company…

Google and Corporate News Giants Forge New Alliance to Defeat Independent Journalism

by Elliott Gabriel from Mint Press News

Search engine and advertising monolith Google continued to press its offensive against alternative media this week with an announcement unveiling a new $300 million project called the Google News Initiative.

The initiative encompasses a range of new projects announced by the tech giant, which has long been accused of enjoying a monopoly position and of siphoning off digital advertising revenue from traditional news publishers.

Google sees it differently, however, and asserted in a press statement announcing the initiative that it “paid $12.6 billion to partners” while driving “10 billion clicks a month to publishers’ websites for free.” The company is now promising to continue working “with publishers to elevate accurate, quality content and stem the flow of misinformation and disinformation.”

The move will likely drive the stake further into the heart of independent media while merging Silicon Valley with mainstream publishers traded on Wall Street and aligned with the agendas of beltway politicians in Washington…

Three Protesters Arrested At UCLA for Speaking Out Against Goldman Sach’s Steve Mnuchin (arrest video)

by Scott Creighton

Here is a video of three young people who spoke out at Treasury Sec. Steve Mnuchin’s UCLA visit the other day. This video was taken outside in the hallway after they were removed by force from the auditorium. The officers calmly and routinely arrested them for doing nothing more than speaking out during the event. One can understand them taking them out of the venue since they seemed dedicated to shouting during the event rather than waiting until a Q&A session. Free speech does also apply to neoliberal fascists like Mnuchin by the way. However, when you look at the damage being done by these ghouls to our society, especially to the poor and working classes, you can kinda understand why young people feel so deeply about trying to be heard and keep these greedy, corrupt fucks from feeling comfortable in settings involving the general public.

To remove these kids is one thing. To place them in hand cuffs, man-handle them and ultimately arrest them is another entirely. I suppose in this day and age we should be glad they didn’t pull a Rodney King on em. Little blessings here in the Shining City on the Hill and I make that reference on purpose because it seems the “Reagan Revolution” is upon us in full swing again.

After Being Told He’s ‘Full of Sh*t’ at School Event, Mnuchin Demands UCLA Suppress Video

from Common Dreams

Trump Treasury Secretary and former Goldman Sachs banker Steve Mnuchin isn’t accustomed to facing direct challenges to his wild economic claims or protests over the GOP tax plan he helped craft, and after experiencing both during an event at UCLA’s Burkle Center on Monday, Mnuchin demanded that video of his appearance be suppressed.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Mnuchin complained to the audience that he usually only talks to “people who wanna listen to me speak” after students and others attending the event yelled out “I think you’re full of shit” and denounced the Republican tax bill as an attack on “people who are in poverty.”

After noting that it was his first time speaking at a university, an increasingly “agitated” Mnuchin “stopped the conversation several times, asking the hecklers either to identify themselves or explain what they were protesting,” the Journal reported on Wednesday.

UCLA initially planned to post a full video of the event to its website later this week, but a university spokeswoman told the Journal that Mnuchin “retracted his permission for the Burkle Center to post its video and podcast of yesterday’s event on its website.”

But thanks to students and reporters who were in attendance, a few short videos of the event ultimately emerged on social media…

Market Crashes to “Correct” Trump’s Memo Wrongthink – The Real Deep State Flexes It’s Muscle

by Scott Creighton

UPDATE: Oh look. This morning they are saying it’s… a correction

“Stock market analysts believe the stock market is long overdue for a 5% pullback or even a 10% correction.” CNN Money

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DOW) closed today down 1,175 points after rallying back from being down 1,600 points.

This is the biggest single day loss in history but it gets worse. On Friday the DOW dropped 666 points as a kind of a precursor to today. That’s a loss of 1,841 points in two business days. That’s a lot.

Especially when you consider the previous worse day was in Sept. of 2008 when the DOW flash-crashed 777 points because congress dared to do what the American people wanted them to do… deny giving Wall Street their first of many bailouts for crashing our economy.

“Monday’s sell-off surpassed a 777.68 points drop on the Dow Jones on 29 September 2008 when Congress rebuffed a $700bn bank bailout plan following the collapse of US investment bank Lehman Brothers earlier that month.” BBC

666? 777? Seem a little like a coincidence to anyone else?

There are a couple things going on right now which might explain this development.

The Nunes Memo and FISA Section 702: The Nunes Conundrum

While folks clamor to #ReleaseTheMemo , Devin Nunes’ “fix” to FISA Section 702 is anything but. As the official government (the ELECTED government) is shut down, the Deep State wins again.
