Robert Parry of Consortium News Has Passed Away

by Scott Creighton

One of the last real journalists we had. I am saddened by this news as I am sure are many of you.

Its a great loss to journalism as someone of his commitment, skill and character will not easily be replaced. Not in this corporatized world we live in anyway. RIP Robert

  1. How awful. Incredibly sad news.

  2. This is incredibly depressing. At least he went out fighting against the grain.

  3. He was only 68…… how very sad.

  4. Two side observations:
His son must not be well informed or may have misunderstood the doctors’ explanations: nobody lives with pancreatic cancer “4 to 5 years.” More like 4 to 6 months. The stroke is another thing.
Gary Webb, from what I recall of reading about his death way back, did not commit suicide all by himself, so to speak.

    • It’s possible. Parry was certainly not a favorite of our owners just like Webb wasn’t. Both were journalists of integrity and both were gone far too soon. Damn man, Parry was posting stuff on his Twitter feed like the day before he was gone. Still working. Still trying. I don’t know. Could easily have been he was working on something as well. He had the kind of clout to get leaks you know? Maybe clean version of that memo or some missing texts perhaps? I don’t know. But he’s gone and we are all worse off for it… which is pretty much the best tribute anyone can give a journalist… or a human for that matter.
