The Long Hot Dark in Tampa

by Scott Creighton

UPDATE: It’s now 4:35pm and we have electricity. It came back on about 30 minutes or so ago. Thank you all for your concern. A/C feels great. We’re doing OK.

It is Friday, Sept. 15th and this is the first time I have had access to the internet since Sunday the 10th at around 6 pm. My neighbors have graciously allowed me to run an extension cord to their generator so I can power this work station. I need to use this opportunity to apply for a FEMA hotel room for my mother so I wont be writing any real update today. At least not right now. I do not know how long I have.

There is no electricity, no lights, no a/c and very little money. We have one tree that was lying on one line and it’s been removed so maybe they will fix that one line today. I have been told 1,500 families/homes have been affected by that one tree and one line. And still we wait.

Have to get to work on the application for her hotel room. I wont be using it myself. Can’t leave the animals you know.

Take care folks.

  1. I sincerely hope that you get power back on very soon. I lived in Houston in 2001 and we no power in my neighborhood for 9 days. It was horrendous. Especially for the elderly and people without good health. Know exactly what you’re going through…

  2. Glad you’re ok and power is back on. I hope you didn’t have any damage and things get better soon.

  3. Days without electricity? It’s/always a painful time. May your neighborhood return to normality as soon as possible.

  4. oh noooo
there is another storm. Maria, about 1 1/2 weeks away from us that is traveling along the same path as Irma did. We might yet lose our power again. Don’t think I can stand it. Those poor people on the Leeward islands and other small islands that were almost destroyed by Irma are going to get hit again.
