Authorities Have Yet to Identify Suspect in Minnesota Mall Attack (no wait… they just did)

by Scott Creighton

UPDATE: An hour after writing this article, CNN announced they have released the attacker’s name. 22-year-old Dahir A. Adan has been identified as the attacker. He is Somali, went to college and worked for a private security firm.

On the same night that the distraction bomb went off in Chelsea, there was an odd knife attack in a popular mall in Minnesota. The assailant wounded 8 people and was eventually shot and killed like so many of the other attackers in the recent past.

Funny thing is, here we are on Monday after the Saturday event, and we still don’t know this guy’s name.

“The Islamic State on Sunday claimed responsibility for the episode, but it was unclear whether the attacker, whom the police have not identified, was in fact acting in the name of the terror group.” New York Times

Authorities declined to identify the suspect, who was killed by an off-duty policeman, because the investigation was under way.” The Wire

Not knowing the identity of the assailant hasn’t prevented “ISIS” from claiming he’s one of theirs:

“executor of the stabbing attacks in #Minnesota yesterday was a soldier of the Islamic State.”

What was his name? What was his background? Had he been on law enforcement’s radar for a while? Was he currently under the control of a handler? Which security company did he work for since they said he was wearing a security guard’s uniform? Is the picture of the dead guy going to even resemble the assailant who stabbed those 8 people in the mall?

All sorts of questions pop up when something like this happens. That’s why we like to know who the suspect is. At this point we have no idea who this guy was and I think it’s more than a little odd that they would keep his name from us for this long.

One Response
