The Wonders of E-Voting Comes to Caucuses via Microsoft: yep. they can steal caucus delegates now with e-voting

by Scott Creighton

Earlier today I mistakenly wrote that they would have to wait til one of the first primary states with electronic voting machines to flip the numbers and start to steal this election. Boy was I wrong. Seems like they are always one step ahead, doesn’t it?

They call it “civic engagement technology”.

Used to call it ballot stuffing when LBJ did it down in Texas.

Modern corporate euphemisms. Gotta love it, right?

The Iowa Caucuses are coming up on Monday, and for the first time, smartphones will play a role in calculating who wins. But it’s not a government app that party leaders will be using to file totals, it’s a Microsoft product. And that has at least one candidate concerned.

In an interview with MSNBC, Bernie Sanders’ Iowa campaign manager Pete D’Alessandro was suspicious of a large corporation’s intentions in helping total the vote. “You’d have to ask yourself why they’d want to give something like that away for free,” he told the news channel.

And Sanders’ team has built its own, separate reporting system to double-check the results. The campaign is also using a dial-in system to provide even further redundancy in keeping Microsoft’s system honest. Geek Wire

Caucus voting has traditionally been harder to rig since people get together and take a vote out in the open where they can be seen by their friends and neighbors. They typically chat and argue with each other until they reach a decision and then phone in the results followed up by mailing in paper results.

Now we get Microsoft added into the mix. They were nice enough to create a couple apps for the republicans and democrats to use to send their results instantly to a central hub which will report the results live to the press.

As with the exit polls and voter registration of elections past, we can certainly expect some differing results between the hard count and the reported numbers via Microsoft’s new app.

“It’s robust, reliable and most important, accurate” says Microsoft.

I should have known. These fuckers never sleep.

  1. Fuck Yeah, it’s the successful “Windows Vista Voting-machine”. 🙂

  2. Hmm… the company of proud neoliberal, eugenicist, and possible future overlord Bill Gates “counting” people’s votes…

Oh sure, no abuse of power here. Check in every hour on the “Hail Mammon” app or else!

  3. Slick

Slick enough to drive the last nail into ‘Democracy’—for this American, anyway
