Phony Devastation Photos Emerge from Gaza to Discredit Real Ones

by Scott Creighton

This is a disinformation alert. Be careful of the images you link to or share concerning Israel’s genocidal actions in Gaza.

[W]e suggest a distinctive tactic for breaking up the hard core of extremists who supply conspiracy theories: cognitive infiltration of extremist groups, whereby government agents or their allies (acting either virtually or in real space, and either openly or anonymously) will undermine the crippled epistemology of believers by planting doubts about the theories and stylized facts that circulate within such groups, thereby introducing beneficial cognitive diversity. Max Blumenthal recently re-tweeted this and since I have respect for Max concerning this issue, I did the same before checking it out:

I thought it looked a little off but re-Tweeted it just the same. The destruction is epic.

Turns out, I found out only minutes later, it’s actually Homs, Syria not Gaza as Dr. Ziara claims.

Here is the original photo, published on Business Insider back in early May of this year. The destruction is from Obama’s “moderate” regime change forces shelling Homs for 3 continuous years. It’s a ghost town.

As you can see, it’s the same picture. The photo is one of a series showing the decay in Homs since the destabilization campaign began years ago. The photo was apparently taken by Ghassan Najjar for Reuters.

If photos like this one are passed around under the guise that they are from Gaza, it will inevitably undermine the legitimacy of all the other real photos of Israel’s disgusting work. Please make sure you check the source of anything you re-tweet or post links to in comments.

I have erased the Tweet I sent out with this image listed as being from Gaza and asked the Dr. and Max for an explanation. So far, neither have replied.

  1. Hi Scott. “Don’t be evil” has a feature which allows you to search for other instances of an image on the web.

Authenticating photos just adds to what I’m sure is an already burdensome workload, but the option is there, and it supports drag & drop.

Good catch though. Best to nip these things in the bud.

  2. The hasbarists always pounce on these sorts of mistakes. The howls of “Paliwood” will be in the wind.

  3. Cass Sunstein unfortunately may suffer from a very crippled epistemology. In his extreme arrogance, he apparently believes he can steer peoples’ thought in the right direction by adding more lies to the available body of information. Inevitably, it just leads to more people who don’t feel a reason to be suspicious of current events questioning what is being reported by the “respected” media and political leaders. I don’t know how a mind focused primarily upon dishonesty as a policy and starting point for all information communication could be considered anything but sick, and indicative that his own “epistemology” is based in part on self-delusion. Cass Sunstein may not just be a bad person – he just may be somewhat of an idiot. Only time will tell, I suppose.

  4. They must be so sophisticated! They must know everything about how stupid humans are.

    Where do I sign up?

  5. No matter what the Obama administration may say to the contrary, actions speak louder than words, and history shows that the U.S. government is not averse to locking up its own citizens for its own purposes. What the NDAA does is open the door for the government to detain as a threat to national security anyone viewed as a troublemaker. According to government guidelines for identifying domestic extremists—a word used interchangeably with terrorists, that technically applies to anyone exercising their First Amendment rights in order to criticize the government.

    • That almost sounded like a warning.

    • Of course, you are right. Take, for example, Jeremy Hammond, who leaked very incriminating emails hacked out of Stratfor exposing multiple illegal abuses by major corporations. He also exposed illegal activities by the FBI who actively aided to hack various servers and then used the information both illegally against the targets and then to entrap and convict him. No crime committed by the FBI nor Stratfor has been investigated, much less convicted. Meanwhile, Jeremy Hammond was sentenced to 10 years federal prison for pleading guilty to one count. He was held for eight months without trial. This was not legal several years ago in the USA but apparently it is now. This is real and this is happening today. We have achieved our fascism. Yeah for profit margins. We live in a world largely controlled by groups that operate like organized crime syndicates.

This article contains a great quote from Federick Douglas:

“Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.”

      General info about Jeremy Hammond:

    • Also, notice when someone like Jeremy Hammond exposes real criminal activity right here in America, committed by real people in real positions in real corporations, there is no widespread media coverage? Why is that? Meanwhile, the Snowden media creation and his pole dancing (or was it pole-vaulting – no, dancing I think) girlfriend are the subjects of synchronized news reporting for several months – all the news anchors are missing are the swim caps and plastic botox-paralyzed smiles (nevermind, they have the smiles – only missing the swim caps) – and Snowden becomes a media hero and fake villain. Hint: Hammond is a real person who leaked incriminating information about crimes committed by real individuals whereas Snowden is a secret committe creation “leaking” wide abuses against general society as a whole – nobody really to incriminate individually, just the big bad government as a bogeyman. The Snowden concept was merely planted to keep you tense and anxious and to make you subconsciously aware that you are always being watched. Snowden is a manufactured tool. Hammond and others like him are a real threat. That’s why Hammond was put away for 10 years and “Snowden” is pretending to live the high life in Russia.
